Trip Planning

We’re planning to depart on a cruise from Copenhagen on July 16, 2022 and want to spend a week touring in/around Denmark or another country the week before our trip. Do you have any suggestions?

We have already seen a lot of the Rick Steves suggested sites in Copenhagen, Roskilde and Helsingor on a previous trip. We’re mid-60’s and enjoy natural beauty and historical landmarks versus cities.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Do you plan to use public transport or a car?
There are three small national parks on the Swedish side close to Copenhagen.

Kullaberg is not a natural park but still worth a visit: https://visitskane.com/outdoors-adventure/kullaberg-nature-reserve
Some smaller cities in the south of Sweden that get lively in the summer and has some history:
- Kalmar has an old castle
- Karlskrona is a Unesco world heritage site
- Varberg has an old fortress
- Ystad has a lot of half-timbered houses

The Round Tower in Copenhagen. A spiral path not stairs to the top of the tower - one of oldest observatories. Interesting history. Get brochure in English.

Consider taking the train to Stockholm and spend a few days there, then return and visit some sites recommended by earlier posters.
