Touring Copenhagen prior to a cruise

We will be arriving in Copenhagen on July 16th at 11:00 a.m. and will need to sign in to our cruise ship on July 17th at 3:00 to 4:00 at the latest. We are trying to figure out the best way to spend our time siteseeing in Copenhagen and surrounding areas. We would like to go to Roskilde and with 1/2 our party wanting to see the Viking Ship Museum and 1/2 our party would like to see the ???Frederickborg Castle. But we would also like to site see in Copenhagen as well. Any advice on the best way to spend our time. Rosenborg Castle, Christiania, river tour, shopping , museums??? Thank you in advance for any information you can give us!

With that much time, it would be difficult to do everything you hope to. Roskilde and Frederiksborg (in Hillerod) are both easy half day trips from Copenhagen, but if you did both, you'd have pretty much no time to do much of anything in Copenhagen itself (bear in mind that museums, stores, etc. won't be open super late at night). I assume you are flying into Copenhagen on the 16th at 11:00 a.m.? So figure you'll be in the city by 1230 or so. If I were you, I'd get lunch in Copenhagen, go to one of your side trips that afternoon, return to Copenhagen for dinner, strolling around the city (maybe go to Tivoli that night), and/or some shopping. The next morning, I do think it is possible to hit Rosenborg, Christiania, and the National Museum all by 3, but that is a very crammed day. Get as early of a start as possible. Bear in mind that Rosenborg to Christiania is a good 30 minute walk (or a 12 minute subway ride). But if you want to see anything significant in Copenhagen itself, I think it would be extremely difficult for you to do both Roskilde and Hillerod in that time frame.

I heard there was a canal boat tour that ends up at Tivol Gardens. Know anything about that. We won't arrive until around 9:30 a.m. And get on our ship the next day.

No canal boat tours end up at Tivoli, since Tivoli is not by a canal. The closest stop would be by Christiansborg.
