We are planning a trip to…somewhere? May 7-17
Some would like to go to Denmark first but I’m wondering if it would be too cool. We are continuing on to Florence on May 18-30. Packing light might be a problem. The internet says 50-60
Any of you been there at that time of year? I’m thinking maybe we could wear an old coat and just leave it there?
It's very personal what too cool is and depends on what kind of weather you prefer. But I would not say no to a trip to Denmark in May because of the weather. You can probably expect around 15-20°C during the day, maybe even warmer. And slightly chillier in the evenings/mornings. A light jacket will probably be enough.
A waterproof jacket might come in handy
A light sweater and rain jacket will probably be all you need. If it is cool, you can layer the two. You will probably be able to get by most days with one or the other.
The lowest temperatures will be after dark and the sun won’t set until after 9pm at that time of year.
15-20C sounds about right. We were there in mid-October last year and it was about like that. It did rain at least a little each day but no single day was "washed out" by relentless rain.
In climates such as in Denmark, I keep a list of inside things to do in mind should the weather turn. In the case of Roskilde, Denmark, that meant one day ducking into the Viking Museum and on another day into the cathedral. Each time it was clear outside when we were ready to move on.
On our day trips to Helsingborg and Fredricksborg the rain that did fall that day was in the wee hours and had no effect on our outings. The "Hamlet Castle" at Helsingborg was a real highlight for me while Fredricksborg was the Denmark highlight for my wife. Roskilde in general is a delight.
So often, suggestions for rain protection work from the head down. Yet the feet can get mighty chilly when wet too. Good sports shoes may not permit wading but will repel the damp. Now back to the top: A nice scarf for your coat and a hat with possible ear covering will fit right in to European spring and European style.
And who will take care of a coat you leave behind, take it to a mission or similar?
No doubt the hotel has arrangements to take care of the many articles of clothing guests leave behind. One could always check with the hotel prior to traveling and set something up. Assuming it's outerwear in decent condition, I like this idea.
