My wife and I would like to spend two months at a summer house in Denmark next year. I have spent quite a bit of time in Denmark but have never spent the summer. Two locations I've been considering are Skagen and Gilleleje, two popular possibilities. Any comments or other recommendations to consider?
What kind of location are you looking for, and what brought you to consider Skagen and Gilleleje? They are not bad options, but there are many more as well. For a longer trip I'd suggest looking at Bornholm, but for two months it can be a bit much maybe. And if you want easy access to larger cities they are a bit further away, closest one is Malmö, about two hours from Rønne.
Ideally someplace green and peaceful. At or near the sea. I've been to Skagen and liked it. We have friends who summer in Gilleleje but I've not been there. We have visited other friends who summer on the west coast of Sjaelland which is nice but almost to quiet. I agree about Bornholm. The same goes for Aero.
I support Bornholm - stayed there last June and liked it. Some memories of childhood vacation in Gudhjem came back to my mind.
Rømø is a nice island with the option to visit German isle of Sylt for a day or historic Ribe.
Also the beaches at Jammerbugten below Hirtshals are beautiful. The turbo ferries from Hirtshals allow a day trip to Norway.
Ærø is overrated in my opinion, at least compared to the amount of attention it gets on this forum.
How quiet is too quiet in you opinion? There are many small towns and villages on Sjælland's west coast, that are within easy reach of a larger town.

This sounds potentially interesting. As mentioned I've stayed in Skagen and liked the area though I've not been to Hirtshals. Can you describe it a bit as well as the availability of summer houses?

Thanks for the response. Can you recommend some of the small towns that might be recommended? I've visited the area but just for a day at the home of friends for dinner and a walk on beach. There were no towns in the immediate area.
How big/small towns are you looking for?
Hopefully not far (by bike) from a town big enough to spend an enjoyable afternoon exploring restaurants, shops and cafes. Interesting people watching.
The idea of a revolving summerhouse sounds like something straight out of a fairytale, doesn't it? Imagine waking up to different views every day—talk about living the dream!
As for my take on it, I think a revolving summerhouse would offer a unique experience, blending the tranquility of nature with a touch of novelty. It's like having your own personal carousel of relaxation! Plus, in a country as picturesque as Denmark, the scenery is bound to be stunning from every angle.
Now, to answer the burning question in the topic—would I consider staying in a revolving summerhouse? Absolutely! Who wouldn't want to add a dash of whimsy to their vacation plans? Count me in for a spin in one of those!
No. Still looking I’m afraid and time is growing short. Difficult to find the information I am looking for without visiting in person I'm afraid.
https://www.novasol.com has a list (or map) with hundreds of summer houses for rent :-)
but it is getting late so the best offers are probably already taken :-(
