Stopover in Copenhagen (22 hours)

Hi Everyone!
I am traveling to Italy in 3 weeks via Copenhagen (SAS). My return flight has a 22 hour stopover there, arriving at 6:30 pm, departing at 1:40 the next afternoon. I am traveling alone and don’t mind wandering on my own, just not sure about an unknown city at night.

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to stay and how to spend the little time I have? I’d like to see something of the city,
Thanks much in advance

I would recommend staying in the Nyhavn area. Within the airport walk to the Metro and buy zone 3 tickets for the M2 Yellow Line to Kongens Nytorv. It is only about a 15 minute ride. There are several hotels near Kongens Nytorv square. We liked Hotel Phoenix. You could enjoy the restaurants on Nyhavn harbor or get ice cream at Vaffelbageren.

The next morning you could take a one hour Stromma Canal boat ride. It gives a great overview of Copenhagen. Get in line at 9:15 am for the 9:30 tour.

Or you could walk by the Amalienborg Palace and the Marble Church and enjoy the shops on Bredgade or walk along the waterfront.

To get back to the airport just take the Metro 2 Yellow line from Kongens Nytorv which arrives not too far from the SAS lounge.

We loved Copenhagen!

Confused also. Copenhagen is in denmark. So maybe this should be in the denmark forum.
Or do you want advice about stockholm?

Apologies!! I shouldn’t send out messages late when I’m tired! 😀
My stopover is in Copenhagen.
Thanks!

I think Kay51 have given you some good advice. I second the recommendation of a canal tour. In addition to Stromma, there is also Netto-bådende, website: havnerundfart.dk. Just go on one of the harbour tours, not both - just know that you have the option of the two companies.

Depending on the time of year you are visiting, you may also have some decent hours of daylight left when you arrive in the evening. You could take advantage of that - as long as you are not too exhausted from your flight.

Copenhagen is one of the safest cities you could go to - so I wouldn't worry too much about the safety aspect. Of course use common sense as you would anywhere. Then you will be fine.

You could also go to Tivoli, if that feels like a must for you (but it isn't a must for everyone). It is not open year-round, but is open for large parts of the year.

Nyhavn is a tourist trap. Nothing wrong with eating there, you just run the risk of paying premium prices at a subpar restaurant. But you'll get to eat in an iconic and central location. So as with most things, there are pros and cons.

Copenhagen is the kind of place where you can just wander. Go to a park, a church or the water's edge. You will feel welcome. Don't hesitate to stay near the Hovedbanegården (Copenhagen Central Station) in the Vesterbro area if you are looking for a hotel. There are some lovely old streets there.
