Seeking Advice for 10 days in Denmark

I am trying to plan a 10 day trip to Denmark in July and August. I have been to several of these places, but my companions have not. How does this sound:
Days 1-4 Visit Copenhagen, taking a day trip to Roskilde.
Days 5-6 Odense
Days 7-9 Aeroskobing.
Days 10 Back to Copenhagen and prepare to fly out the next morning. My question: is there another place other than Copenhagen where we can spend our last evening and still have an easy drive to the airport?

You could switch things and go to Aeroskobing first, then back to Odense for
a couple of days, and then go straight to CPH from Odense. Two hour train
ride. I guess it depends on your flight schedule as to whether that's doable
or not.

From the itinerary you have, not quite sure why you need a car.

If you’re looking for a way to avoid Copenhagen, I’d suggest Roskilde, which is about 20 miles west of Copenhagen. Get there early enough, and you can visit the Viking Ship Museum, with five recovered real ships that sank centuries ago, and authentically built copies that take visitors out on the Fjord for a sailing excursion. Museum closes at 5:00 P.M.

Is there a special reason you are spending more time in Ærøskøbing than in Odense?

Ærøskøbing is nice, but small, while Odense is the third largest city in Denmark with much more to see and do.

In Rick Steves world, Aeroskobing is kind of the Cinque Terre of Denmark — meaning, a place he long has really, really hyped as a quaint “back door” in his guidebooks and TV show that is a recommended highlight of a visit to Denmark, and his Scandinavia tour goes there. But like Cinque Terre (although not yet nearly as overtouristed, I think), it’s more of a good examplar of a number of worthy destinations to be found in a country, than a place truly unique.

Thanks for your replies. This forum has been so helpful to me in the past. I've changed a few things:
Nights 1-3 Visit Copenhagen
Nights 4-6 Aeroskobing
Nights 7-9 Odense
Night 10 Roskilde (only 1/2 hour from airport) Does anybody have any comments?

Question about Aeroskobing: I was there 25 years ago, and it was a magical place. Time has passed and sometimes I'm disappointed in the changes. What do you think about Aeroskobing?

I confess I haven’t been to Aeroskobing, just have heard about it from Rick. I do love Copenhagen and its many day trips including Roskilde and Helsingor, and I think northern Jutland such as Skagen is a wonderful “back door” but that is likely too far out of your way. One suggestion, many of us on the forum recommend that when seeking itinerary advice you describe your trip in terms of how many nights you’re considering in a place rather than days, since (for example) three days could just mean one full day (evening arrival, next day, then morning) departure) or it could mean three full days, whereas three nights, we know that means at least two full days.

Aeroskobing,

My - very personal - opinion is that Ærøskøbing is rather "Touristy". I suggest you take a half-day trip to Marstal, which is just a short bus ride away. To me, that feels more back-door-ish.

Can you simply be spontaneous and get a bus to Marstal or do you think it requires pre booking (if that is permitted) at the end of June. Thank you !

If you mean the local bus on Ærø: Yes, absolutely. It’s the local bus service. Even if you wanted to, there’s no way of pre-booking it.
