Oslo/Copenhagen Ferry Advice

Is it really necessary to prebook the meals for the ferry?
Is it hard to get a seat if we wait til we board to get a reservation?
Is the buffet good or great?

With the caveat that it was some years ago so my observation about quality of food (which was very good) may no longer be accurate, but I expect it still would be the case that it’s a good idea to reserve it, plus we were smart to get a seating when it opened, because as dinner went on the buffet got a lot more crowded, messy and picked over, despite the staff’s best cleaning and replenishment efforts.

There’s a difference between going on a busy weekend in the summer and a quiet Wednesday in November. But if you want the buffet, I think it’s a good idea to make a reservation. There are other places to buy food onboard, but without a reservation you’re not guaranteed a table at the restaurants. So why risk it?

A few years ago, the former operator DFDS sold the route (including the ships) to Gotlandsbolaget, who now operate the route under the name Go Nordic Cruiseline. They got new branding and so on, but as far as I have heard, most things have largely stayed the same onboard. But I haven't been on it since the new owner took over, so I can't personally verify it.
