Odense

There’s so much to see! Is Odense worth a stop for a one week trip outside of Copenhagen.? And if so , do you have hotel suggestions?

Yes, Odense is worth a stop. But it also depends a bit on what your plan looks like.

My visit was a few years back. Frankly speaking is Odense for me not a mustsee. Modern architecture spoiles the atmosphere there what would be otherwise a nice place. The street where Hans Christiaan Andersen was born is lovely but because of this the intimacy that would make it so attractive is gone. But this is how I exprienced Odense and can be different for others.

His birth place was closed at the time, so I visited instead the Danmarks Jernbanemuseum / railway museum and lucky there was an event with steam trains. And enjoyed the Den Fynske Landsby open air museum too, certainly worth a visit. If you really want to see Hans Christian Andersen’s house in combination with the other museums than Odense is worth a stop.

Yes, worth a trip if you are looking for side trips out of Copenhagen! We enjoyed our day in Odense. We walked around the city and parks and visited the H.C. Anderssen Museum which was fantastic and also the home he lived in as a young child. We went last August and had to buy tickets in advance for the museum though - you basically had a timed "reservation" to visit.
