Hello Morten and others. I just read in the general Europe thread that Europeans don't have peanut butter and frequently ask Americans to bring some in their suitcase. I read in a newspaper article that there is no PB to be found in Denmark and Sweden. Should I bring some peanut butter with me on my trip?
Wow, are you kidding me?
I lived in Paris for a year, found some PB at an "American Food" store (which is apparently quite famous with expats) in the Latin Quarter around month 5.
There is no peanut butter in europe. How long are you going to be in Denmark?
Oh gosh! Sorry I was so unclear. I hope to be eating herring and such while I am there. I mean will the locals be glad to have a gift of peanut butter from a visiting American? But I just learned that PB has to go in my 3-1-1 bag. So, not such a good idea anyways.
I bought peanut butter routinely in Stockholm when I lived there. Peanut butter on Wasa crispbread was a staple for me when the cupboard was bare. I could even find "Skippy". Although it has been 15 years, I'm sure you could find it at the big Hemköp in Stockholm which is in the basement of Åhlens.
Look for jordnötssmör

Thanks Laura, I guess you can't believe everything you read!
Nutella is even yummier (although it's not native to Denmark but should be available)...give it a try.
There will be a tiny selection but most supermarkets in Europe carry it least one variety of peanut butter. Your real concern should be the lack of reeses peanut butter cups in Europe, they are very difficult to find and I don't know how Europeans survive without them.
Maybe 20 years ago...I buy it every week at my local grocery here in Vienna. I agree that Reese's, especially the egg, pumpkin or Christmas tree shapes, are worth their weight in gold. Also anything from Trader Joe's.
You Can find peanut butter in most Danish supermarkets.
I'm sorry, but this was to great a question to not comment on. It reminds me of the time I brought a smoked sausage to my host family in Iceland because someone said they didn't get that there. Oh how strange they looked. Peanut butter is available in several variants in all Danish supermarkets. The variants with the odd word økologisk are ecological and very tasty:-)
Today, in my local supermarket, I saw not only peanut butter but super organic gluten free (yes, I know it is anyway, but that's what the label said in fake handwriting) hand pressed peanut butter you have to sell a house for was on special. I don't know how they got the colour to be whiteish.
I took my wife a pack of 4 Reese's Peanut Butter Cups last week. They are easy to find.
Now Mallo Cups, that's a different question. Can anybody tell me where I can get Mallo Cups? (not that my waistline has any business looking for Mallo Cups. Or Reese's anything. ;-)
LOL Yes, there is peanut butter in Denmark...
Peanut butter and Oreos too! Don't freak out...you can MAKE peanut butter in a food mixer LOL
