Has anyone traveled by train from Copenhagen to the Rhine River area in Germany. We are thinking of taking the night train to Cologne and Koblenz? Is there a night train every day? Are there places we would have to change trains? Is it reasonable to think we might be able to sleep on the train, comfortable seats, etc.
I have taken the night train from Copenhagen to Munich. It was a long ride - I want to say 10 hours - and we had to change in Hamburg.
We were being cheap and did not get a sleeper. If you take the night train, I encourage you to splash out for a sleeper. It was crowded and I ended up spending a portion of the night stretched out on the floor, with people stepping over me, because I couldn't get comfy sitting up. :-)
Googling the trip to Koblenz turned up the following: http://tinyurl.com/ojt2apv - looks like 13 hours, and you change in Köln right at the end. Looks super do-able. You leave Copenhagen just before 7:00pm and get into Koblenz just before 8:00am!
I truly appreciate your responses and will be taking a look at the sites you recommended. This sounds doable and hopefully we will find the sleeper car within our budget. Thank you.
