Is an international driver’s license required?

Traveling to DK next week. Have driver’s license in USA. Anyone know if that is sufficient?

hey hey Todd B
i would go right away to aaa.com and get your IDP. it's $30, 2 passport size photos and receive same day. better be safe than sorry.
if stopped by the popo big fines to pay on the spot, may take car away and return to rental company, rental car company may not rent to you & cancel, then what
your driver's license is not international and you are in an international/EU country and can't read your english license. good luck

I got curious and tried to find out :-)

This is the best I found:

https://www.danishroadtrafficauthority.dk/driving-license/foreign-driving-licences/foreign-driving-licences-exchanges-and-visitors-driving-licences (This is an officiel site)

As I read it, you can use a US driving license if you have a translation in english. I guess that means an IDP.

I don't understand why a US drivers license should be translated into english, but perhaps it is to translate abbreviations.

If in doubt ask your car rental company.

If you do not have normal residence in Denmark, you may use your foreign driving licence in Denmark in the following cases:
The driving licence is issued by an EU or EEA country (Iceland, Norway and Lichtenstein).
The driving licence is from the Faroe Islands.
The driving licence is from Greenland.
It is a temporary driving licence issued in Finland, Iceland, Norway or Sweden.
It is a foreign driving licence ........, issued in the Latin alphabet or accompanied by a translation in Danish, English or French.

As I read this language ( taken from the link in l.p.enersen's post) it appears a US license , being in the Latin (Roman) alphabet and in English is sufficient on its own.

I am impressed that so many contributors have LLB or better.

I. p. Enersen, Australia is excited to be having an official visit from Fred and Mary next month from 14th to 19th. Obviously Christian will not be with them but are hoping at least the twins may come.

They snuck into Hobart last February without Christian for a private visit. An excited local recognised Mary at Salamanca Market, took a quick photo and posted it to a social media. That blew it.

It always great to have them visit,
