Is 6 minutes a long enough connection at Copenhagen Lufthavn

On July 6, 2025, our family of 4 is looking to travel from Gothenburg to Aarhus. SJ has a "replacement bus" from Gothenburg to Falkenberg. Then from there, there is a train from Falkenberg to the Copenhagen airport train station. At CPH Lufthavn, there would only be 6 minutes to change trains to the DSB train to Aarhus. On the DSB app, I can see it would depart from track 2. I can't find what track the Falkenberg train would arrive on, to know if 6 minutes would be enough time to change trains. We will only have carry on luggage, but I don't know the train station to know if we might have to traverse lots of stairs or tunnels to change train platforms. Any insight would be appreciated!

Hi,

Have you booked the entire journey Göteborg C - Aarhus H on one ticket or separate tickets?

6 minutes is enough, as both trains use the same platform at Copenhagen Airport Station. Assuming there will be no delays, of course. As always, you should confirm with the monitors at the station, to make sure there are no last minute track changes (though unlikely at CPH Lufthavn St.). The station only has two tracks. Track 1 for terminating trains and trains towards Sweden, and track 2 for trains towards Copenhagen and the rest of Denmark.

That is very helpful, to know there are only 2 tracks. Would you expect the SJ and DSB trains to normally be on time? We have Eurail tickets, so we just need seat reservations for the last part of the journey from CPH to Aarhus.

Generally yes, I'd expect them to be on time. But 6 minutes is a thin margin, and small delays like that happen every day, for a myriad of reasons - but not for every train.

DSB have frequent trains between Copenhagen and Aarhus, at least once an hour. So as long as you are not on the last train of the day, a missed connection is not a big issue. Though I'd recommend getting new seat reservations for the next DSB train, as there can be many passengers on them.

SJ's trains to Copenhagen have been cancelled for the rest of 2025 due to a shortage of trains. So I'm assuming you'll be on an Øresundstog Falkenberg - Copenhagen, and then a DSB InterCityLyn Copenhagen - Aarhus?

Both Øresundstog services and InterCityLyn services also stop at København H (the central station). Here the InterCityLyn trains usually have a stop for 10-15 minutes. So if you are delayed upon arrival to CPH Lufthavn, it could be worth trying to catch the ICL train at København H instead. Though København H is a much larger station, it is a second chance.

Also be prepared for no catering onboard Øresundstog and DSB's train. So stock up on what you need to eat and drink before you start the journey.

I have to admit, my first thought was "Are you really trying to connect between two flights in 6 minutes, are you crazy?".

But between two trains it sounds doable, it is as mentioned an easy connection. The station has one track for trains to Sweden and one track for trains to (the rest of) Denmark. 6 minutes is not a problem, get off the train, wait six minutes for the next. And if you have a Eurail pass you really don't have to worry. If your arriving train is late, just take the next train towards Århus.

But, I'm going to suggest an alternative route. Take the ferry from Gothenburg to Fredrikshamn and change there for a train to Århus. With the construction in Varberg (between Gothenburg and Falkenberg), starting with the ferry is probably a bit faster.

It just struck me that Fredrikshamn is the Swedish spelling. broccolihaar will probably correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Danish spelling of the town is Frederikshavn.
