Getting from Copenhagen (or vice versa) to Amsterdam: car, train or plane?

My husband and I will be traveling in late May/early June between Amsterdam and Stockholm. We plan to rent a car to drive between Copenhagen and Kalmar, then take the train to Stockholm. Are we better off keeping the car and driving to Amsterdam, or should we get rid of the car in Copenhagen and take the train or fly to Amsterdam? What would be the most comfortable, most affordable, and best touring-wise?

Many thanks!
Lisa

The closest road trip requires a ferry ride, and it's about a 500 mile ride. Drop off rental car fees are very expensive.
You can fly it in 1 1/2 hrs. and for as low as $50 USD on Norwegian Air Shuttle.

Lisa: David gives good advice with which I cannot disagree. However, please note that if you take the train, you will have the unusual opportunity to ride the train onto a ferry to cross the sea to Germany. During the sea transit, passengers alight from the train and go up several levels to an observation deck with plenty of shops and food vendors. Since we had plenty of time to travel in Europe, we elected to take the train. David's recommendation gets you to Amsterdam far quicker and probably cheaper. Although it was a long day (about 11-12 hours), we felt it was worthwhile and a fun experience. In either case, enjoy your travels and be safe.

I'm confused, are you going in the order Stockholm-Kalmar-Copenhagen-Amsterdam or the other way?
Between Copenhagen and Amsterdam I would also recommend flying.
Unless you have a particular reason for renting a car, I would take the train between Stockholm and Kalmar and between Kalmar and Copenhagen.

Thanks Morten
We want to explore the towns and glassworks in that area between Vaxjo and Kalmar.

If you will drop the car in Sweden, then compare prices to pick it up in Malmo versus Copenhagen. They're not far apart, but it may still save a second-country drop fee.
