From the Airport to Downtown Copenhagen

What's the approximate round trip fare (by train, metro or bus) from the airport to downtown Copenhagen? I've checked the respective websites, but their English language versions refuse to divulge any such information!

Which mode of conveyance above is best when carting a bicycle in a box?

Train was less than 40 dkk (I am recalling something like 37 dkk). It's the fare for two zones. Train is a low floor with a lot of space (we had a gear duffle bag plus ski box (210 cm long) in addition to our carry-ons. Be be aware that it can be crowded at peak times because the train is a great way to/from CPH.

By downtown, the train goes to the Central Station. The station is served by local buses, but a big bike box could be a problem. If you have a Bike Friday with a suitcase/trailer you could set up at the station and just ride to downtown.

Thanks, Edgar. Sounds just as spacey, convenient and cheap as shuffling with a bicycle from Heathrow to London!

I need to leave my bike box at my downtown accommodation for the return flight home. The simplest and most direct way would be to take a taxi to downtown. Any idea of the cost?

If I'm reading the Danish fare schedule correctly, the metropolitan fares including train from CPH is:

CPH to central station = 36 dkk
Local bus in zone = 24 dkk.

Ticket machines take coins. If memory serves me, 20 dkk, 10 dkk work in the ticket machines and return change. We paid the bus drivers in coins and got change back.

Our credit card (Cap One) is a chip and signature accepted at staffed pay stations but we didn't try it in a machine. Denmark is pretty advanced and seemed to accept credit cards everywhere. If you use the airport ATM cash machine as I did, it returned only 500 dkk bills (I asked for 1500 dkk). I used one of the 500 dkk at the airport's staffed train ticket office.

The prices Edgar mentions are correct, 36kr for a 3 zone ticket between the airport and the city centre. The ticket covers both metro, train and busses and you can use it for the whole journey (it's valid for a set time period), so you don't have to buy a new ticket if you change from train to bus or metro. A taxi will probably set you back around 300 kr (my guesstimate).

The best mode of transport depends on your exact destination. The bike in a box could be an issue in rush hour in busses and the metro. Busses have room for prams and such, but could be full. The metro has ample room for luggage and such, but be ware that the doors close quite fast when you have to enter and exit.
