From Oslo to Copenhagen, what to see?

We (senior couple from the desert Southwest, active, main interests are culture, history, outdoor activities ) will be visiting Norway and Denmark in late August; will not have a car; coming from Oslo to Denmark. We will have about 7 days (or more) to spend in Denmark. Thinking about departing Oslo by train to Gothenburg, then from G. to Frederikshavn, Denmark by train; then on to Aalborg by bus or train and on to Copenhagen. Between Aalborg and Copenhagen, are there not-to-miss locations we should visit? Around the Copenhagen region, what should we make sure we see?

From Frederikshavn you could head straight north to Skagen, It's a charming old fishing village, turned artist colony, turned tourist destination. It is a popular tourist destination, so be sure to book early.
I don't believe in the concept of must-sees, it is all very subjective and your stated interests (culture, history, outdoor activities) is still a bit vague, so it is hard to give suggestion. Instead I would suggest you have a look at www.visitdenmark.com.
From Copenhagen the usual day trips are Roskilde, Helsingør and Frederiksborg Castle.

Is that a typo? It sounds like a weird way to go, but if you mean by ferry it makes more sense.

Are you aware that there is a ferry directly from Oslo to Frederikshavn? Look at https://www.stenalinetravel.com

Well, thanks to my hubby for giving me that info...but, actually, the question still stands. We will visit Fredricksborg Castle, Roskilde, and Århus while in Copenhagen. Can those be day trips out of Copenhagen? Other locations we shoud see?

Frederiksborg castle and Roskilde are easy to visit as day trips from Copenhagen.

Århus is more of a problem. It is 3 hours each way so you won't get much time there. If you are in Aalborg it is 1 hour 40 minutes - and on the way to Copenhagen. See train times on https://www.rejseplanen.dk/webapp/index.html?language=en_EN

Other interesting places you could visit from Copenhagen are Kronborg, Maritime Museum, Bakken, Dragoer, Open air museum
