Frederiksborg Castle and Kronborg Castle - doable en route from Copenhagen to Stockholm?

Hi All,

We are visiting Scandinavia in July and we are wondering if it would be doable to visit both Frederiksborg castle and Kronborg castle (maybe just the grounds) on our way from Copenhagen to Stockholm in one day? We are using public transportation. It looks like there are easy train connections from Copenhagen to Frederiksborg and Frederiksborg to Kronborg, but not sure about Kronborg to Stockholm - any suggestions?

Thank you!

It is doable, but be prepared for a long day.
There is indeed train connections between Copenhagen, Hillerød (for Frederiksborg) and Helsingør (for Kronborg). Look at http://www.rejseplanen.dk/ for all public transport in Denmark. To get from Helsingør to Stockholm you have to take a short ferry ride to Helsingborg and from there a train to Stockholm, look at www.sj.se for trains in Sweden.

As Morten said, it's pretty ambitious, but possible. You have about a 40 minute train ride from Copenhagen to Hillerod, and Frederiksborg is maybe a 10-15 minute walk from the station. Then it's about a 30 minute train ride from Hillerod to Helsingor. Again, Kronborg is maybe a 10 minute walk from the station. Then a 20 minute ferry ride from Helsingor to Helsingborg (in Sweden). Then probably a 5 hour train or so to Stockholm (and you may have to switch trains in Lund). If you factor in wanting probably at least an hour or ideally two hours at each of the castles (not to mention if you want any time in the towns or to do anything else there), that makes for a very long day. But it is possible.
