Feasibility of traveling directly from Stockholm, Sweden to Aeroskobing, Denmark

We are considering an itinerary where we would travel directly from Stockholm to Aeroskobing. Our concern is how long this may take and whether it can actually be done in a single "travel day".

If so, would you suggest flying from Stockholm to Copenhagen and then taking train and ferry to save time? Or, would taking the train from Stockholm to Copenhagen and then on to Aeroskobing take less time or the same amount of time.

Any advice would be sincerely appreciated.

You can start exploring the many options on Rome2Rio.com. Don't trust any of the times or fares it shows. Keep clicking through to see the name of the company operating the train, ferry, etc., and go to its website to verify schedule and cost. If Rome2Rio could be trusted (which it cannot), I'd say there's no advantage to doing anything other than taking trains and a ferry. But who knows what a look at the right websites may show?

Check flight schedules on skyscanner.com.

Yes, you can travel from Stockholm to Ærøskøbing in a single day.
No, I would not suggest flying from Stockholm to Copenhagen. It will only save you around an hour compared to taking the train, and flying will add a lot of unnecessary airport hassle - not to mention that it is almost always cheaper to travel by train on this route.

Stockholm -> Copenhagen takes around 5 hours by train.
Copenhagen -> Ærøskøbing via Odense and Svendborg takes around 4 hours by train and ferry.

You can find timetables and book tickets on:

Swedish Railways: www.sj.se

Danish Railways: www.dsb.dk/en

Ærø Ferries: www.aeroe-ferry.dk

Yes, the train is very much cheaper. If you book in advance, the train tickets from Stockholm to Copenhagen start at 195 SEK, flying will cost at least twice as much (not including luggage and travel to an from the airports).

Flying can save you some time if you aren't too early at the airport and take Arlanda express. Let say 30 min transport to the airport, arrive there 1 hour before, 1 hour flight, 30 min wait for luggage is 3 hours while train is around 4 hours 45 minutes. But if you go by coach and arrive 2 hours before there isn't much time to gain.

Slowest but with a minimum of lost daytime is sleeper train Stockholm-Malmö. Will cost a bit more but you won't need accommodation that night.

...and the IC and Lyn trains from Copenhagen Airport depart 25 minutes before they depart from Copenhagen Central Station, so that's another ~30 minutes to add to the calculation if you choose to fly.

But 4h45m was Stockholm C to Copenhagen airport. To the central station it is around 5h. I recommend you to change trains at the airport since the Stockholm trains and Odense train often use the same track. At the central station you risk arriving at the infamous track 26 and departing from track 7 or 8 where your options are stairs from Tietgensgade or the long detour via the main building.

Anders has a good point, you don’t want to end up at platform 26 aka The mystery platform.

Thank you all for the advice...very helpful. It looks like we'll go by train then using the connections you suggested.
