I have travelled throughout Europe before with an arrival and departure planned. This trip, I'm not sure where I will fly out from since I will be traveling around. Is a one way ticket an issue?
Depending on immigration officials or EES processing, you may be asked about ongoing transportation and length of stay. These questions have been a possibility for years.
What are your tentative plans? Assuming you are not planning to overstay the Schengen rule of 90 days and you can prove you have the financial means to return to the US (credit cards) you should have no problems.
You could always purchase a refundable air or train ticket to prove you are visiting and not planning to "live" in Denmark if it makes you more comfortable.
You may have a problem.
More than once with an one-way ticket, I have been unable to complete online check-in and have had to see an agent to get my boarding pass. In each case, I had a ticket home on a different airline that I could show the agent. I don’t know what would have happened if I had not shown a ticket home.
I have also been asked by an immigration officer about my return ticket.
Do you know when you will be flying home?
The only time(s) I've been asked about departure tickets was entering Schengen countries. They wanted to know when I was leaving Schengen. Not when I was going home. What I did once I left Schengen was no concern of theirs.
So, if necessary, buy a cheap refundable ticket to a non-Schengen country such as the UK or Ireland.
I travel on one way tickets all the time. It has never been an issue so far. I do sometimes get asked about my plans and when I expect to leave. I’ve never had to prove anything with a ticket, although I do have another one way ticket usually leaving from elsewhere.
Answer any questions from passport control honestly and you should be fine.
I've never travelled on a one-way ticket internationally, but likewise I've never been asked to show my onward travel ticket. They've simply never asked. They may ask how long you'll be there, where you are staying, where are you going next, but never had to prove I had a ticket to leave.
Hi all and thank you for the responses. I plan to travel to the eastern part of Europe. I will probable get a return flight out of one of those countries.
