DSB plus, and using the DSB app

I've just been looking at the DSB Plus membership - it's free and apparently provides some benefits including discounts on some attractions. It also seems like the new 'check in' feature on the app might be nice.
We are a couple (one senior 67+, one adult) planning to spend 3 nights in Copenhagen after arriving at the airport in the morning, and leaving via DFDS overnight ferry to Oslo. I'm not convinced either the Copenhagen discover card (for 24,48,72 hrs) or the DOT City pass small or large, is the way to go for us. We're likely to take the train/metro from CPH to the central station, and walk to our hotel on the first day. Most likely we'll want to spend that day exploring by foot and staying fairly close to the hotel, especially until our room is ready so we can get settled in. We're still deciding how many of the attractions we will visit during our stay to decide about the cards.
My question is about the DSB Plus membership - it lists discounts for many attractions. Has anyone ever used it? What about the App? (It can be used whether or not we sign up for Plus) It seems like the DSB app would be very handy since the senior discount is applied automatically, but we will only have data using an esim (BNESIM) which we've used in several countries but not yet in Denmark. Does anyone know if there's a problem using the app if we lose data connection?

Sorry for the lengthy post, just trying to supply details. I will likely sign up for DSB plus since it's free, but I wonder how useful/easy to use those attraction discounts are. If they're easy to use, it would likely rule out the savings of the Copenhagen Discover card.

Hi,

I've been a DSB Plus member for years. I don't remember ever having used the discounts on attractions, as I've always forgotten this offer exist. But the way you get a discount varies from attraction to attraction. Some will ask you to show an SMS from DSB Plus at the ticket desk, others will ask you to use a specific link to their webstore, and so on. This is shown on the website when you're logged in (not sure if it has an English version, but if not you can use Google Translate or similar).

You need to have a DSB account to use the check in feature in the app. You also need connection to the internet to use the check in feature. However I've been on transport on a route where my phone always loose connection for a few minutes, and that was no issue for my onwards journey.

Thank you, that's very helpful. I already downloaded both the DSB and DOT app, but will go ahead and setup the DSB account and sign up for DSB plus. I'm not too worried about getting the discounts since it's free to sign up. Later in our trip, we'll be taking the train from Randers back to Copenhagen, so I think that will be easier to do with DSB (someone mentioned having problems with US based credit cards on the DOT app but not on the DSB app).
I'm assuming we can use the checkin feature for the metro or train from the airport when I'm still on airport wifi or can at least test out my esim, then decide whether to use the app or buy paper tickets from the machines at the airport.

You're welcome!

DOT's app doesn't work in Randers. DOT is an umbrella organisation for public transport in the eastern part of Denmark, and Randers is in the western part of the country.

DSB's app will do the trick for Randers-Copenhagen journeys. But for this journey, I'd recommend you book ahead. Orange and Orange Fri tickets are cheaper and non-flexibile tickets, and as they sell out prices will increase, similar to how we know it from airlines. You can get those via DSB's app or on their website.

Prices for Randers-Copenhagen start at 127 DKK for Orange tickets. In comparison, a "Standard" ticket (the flexible walk up fare) is 497 DKK or 495 DKK if you use the check in feature. So there's a lot of money to be saved if you book ahead on this trip. These prices are the adult fares, seniors 67+ get a discount. Standing on a 3+ hour train ride is not fun, so do spend the extra +30 DKK on a seat reservation. It's well worth the little extra money to be guaranteed a seat.
