Hello we are traveling at end of May and it looks like we will take the overnight ferry from Copenhagen to Oslo on Saturday 5/24/2025. There are four of us, and we will book two cabins. How far in advance should we book this to make sure we get our date? Wondering if this sells out and if I need to act ASAP or I can wait.
Thanks! Mike
Sorry I should add I am from the United States. In addition, does DFDS ever offer any Black Friday (11/29/2024) discounts for Americans (or anyone else?)
If your dates are set then you can just buy them as soon as they are available. Although note that it's not a DFDS ferry anymore, the route and the ships were bought by Gotlandsbolaget recently. DFDS still handles the ticket sales, but I assume that Gotlandsbolaget will soon take over that part as well.
DFDS are going to do Black Friday deals on certain of their routes from the UK. Whether they will on the Baltic or Scandinavian routes is anyone's guess although they don't seem to be hinting that they will.
If you want be wait a few days fine, but be pleasantly surprised if such deals turn up.
Thanks to you both. Yes it is only a few days from now, and I will wait just in case. I am guessing the new ferry owners will not affect my ticketing or my onboard travel?
Thanks again!
I haven't taken that ferry, but I was unpleasantly surprised at how much the Helsinki-Turku fare increased while I fiddled around with other aspects of my 2023 trip and didn't buy the ferry ticket. I'm assuming Copenhagen-Oslo fares are also subject to changes due to demand. I had the additional problem that the least expensive cabins (what I wanted) sold out, so I had to move up a class. The trip ended up costing about 3 times what it would have, if I had been on the ball.
Do pay attention to the cancellation/refund policy, though.
Whatever deals or sales DFDS are planning might not affect the Copenhagen-Oslo route since they don't operate that route anymore.
DFDS have now opened their Black Friday Deals- which are only on North Shields (Newcastle) to Ijmuiden (Amsterdam) mini cruises and Duty Free shopping on the Dover to Calais route.
The new owners are not doing any such deals, so you may as well book now- on the DFDS site.
Currently without a vehicle, prices start at 91 Euro for an inside cabin- which is a pretty good Cabin inclusive price for a Saturday- so I would take that very willingly. ASAP. I doubt that price will hang around for too long.
We have travelled to Oslo via this overnight ferry and it was a good experience. We sailed in early August so a popular time of year for travel in Denmark & Norway and purchased our tickets 4 months in advance and had no problem securing our room.
