Denmark to Norway itinerary question

Hello Hive Mind!

I am making a long trip from the Nordic region through Scandinavia and leaving from Oslo, to go something like this

Helsinki-St Pete-Tallinn-Stockholm-Copenhagen...

that's where i'll need your help. Would anyone recommend going up in the Danish countryside (Aalborg, Friedericksburg, etc) and then taking a ferry to, say, Kristiansand or Stavanger for the next (Norwegian) part of the trip? Is there anything about this that necessarily beats the overnight ferry from Copenhagen-Oslo?

See, we fly home from Oslo and it would be handiest if we could get there last.

If you find something you would like to see in the Danish countryside, then sure it's better to take the ferry from Jutland than from Copenhagen. But It's difficult to answer without knowing more about your interests; would you like to see some countryside, nature, historical sites, viking sites, towns, castles or manor houses etc etc. Personally I think the biggest draw of that part of the country is in the country side and smaller towns, so a car would be nice to have for some portion of the trip.
Also there is no place called Friedericksburg, but a lot of places called something with Frederik, since Denmark has had nine kings named Frederik, so you will have to be more specific.

Morten,

Thank you for your reply. My apologies: I meant Frederikshavn.

I suppose we do enjoy nature (though we are not really outdoorsy people, nor campers) and smaller towns that have interesting historical or cultural sites. I have only been to Copenhagen and Odense before - (I was in Odense to give performances at the Carl Nielsen Concert Hall - i am a musician - and liked Odense very much. I found the old town in Odense extremely charming, though I'm not sure we will return to Odense on this trip.)

I suppose I have some reading to do about the things to see around Denmark, but Rick Steves, for example, excludes Aalborg from his scandinavia guide, and so I thought I"d pose this question here to the "crowd".

Frederikshavn (and not Frederiksberg, Frederiksborg, Frederikssund or Fredericia:-)) makes more sense if you are heading to Norway. It's basically an industrial and fishing port with little of interest. Aalborg has a few interesting sites, but it's not a major tourist destination either. There are some interesting viking sites in the area, such as Lindholm Høje https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindholm_H%C3%B8je and Aggersborg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aggersborg
The northwestern coast is more wild (as wild as it gets in Denmark at least) with wide sandy beaches and large dunes. The coast also has a few WW2 bunkers left over from Hitlers Atlantic wall, most notably in Hanstholm.
Skagen on the northern tip of Denmark is a charming old fishing town and former artists colony. It's very popular with Danes in the summer.
The local official tourist website is http://www.visitnordjylland.com/ln-int/north_jutland

Yes indeed, we are going to Norway afterward and I'd prefer to arrive at Oslo last.

These suggestions are interesting. Most of the guidebooks seem to ignore Nordjylland almost entirely. But perhaps we can take a trip through there and then take the ferry to Kristiansand.

thanks for your help
