The National Museum of Denmark. It a comprehensive museum of Danish history. The Viking section on the second floor has stunning artifacts such as Viking helmets, the longest Viking ship in the world and finely-crafted gold and silver jewelry.

Agree with above. I have spent full days at the National Museum on several different trips. https://en.natmus.dk/museums-and-palaces/the-national-museum-of-denmark/

If interested in WWII history, the Resistance Museum is very moving. https://en.natmus.dk/museums-and-palaces/the-museum-of-danish-resistance/

For living history museums, Frilandsmeet is good. Short distance by public transport fron central Copenhagen, https://en.natmus.dk/museums-and-palaces/the-open-air-museum/

CJohnson - you have brought back great memories! At the National Museum, in addition to the Viking and pre-history exhibits mentioned in Post #1, there are rooms and rooms of exhibits of Medieval to Renaissance Danish history and 17th century to modern times. Excellent curation and explanations in English.

My advice, if you don't have all day, don't get lost in the first floor Viking area. It is so good that it would be easy to use up all your time and miss the excellent exhibits in the floors above!!

The National Museum in Copenhagen is superb. We we allocated 3 hours and did not finish before the museum closed. Organized chronologically. No language issues.
