Any place we should stop on our way from Copenhagen to Amsterdam other than Hamburg? We'd like to stop somewhere inbetween for an overnight and possibly a day, if there is something worth seeing.
It depends, are you driving or relying on trains? The most logical option would be to fly, if you are just getting from A to B.
We are traveling by train, and hoping to find a stopping point or two that would be fun to explore. Any "hidden gems", if you will. 😊
Not exactly a hidden gem, but Lübeck is well worth exploring for a day. It has a beautifull old city gate, city walls and historical buildings and Churches. Hamburg is a much bigger and modern city and has some interesting sights as well. It all depends on your interests really.
I dont know much about the area between Hamburg and Amsterdam, but I’m sure others can fill in.
Definitely Lübeck. It’s a beautiful old town, which manages to balance a perfect historical centre with a real feeling of life.
In Hamburg, make sure to go to Miniatur Wunderland. Even as a middle aged solo female traveller who doesn’t like model railways, I was entranced.
