Copenhagen's Round Tower

Steve's cruise ports book describes the tower as the oldest functioning observatory in Europe. Yet he goes on to write there is nothing inside to see except the ramp and tower. Is there a telescope housed in the tower? Is special permission necessary to see the equipment? Thanks.

Yes there is a telescope inside the observatory on top of the tower. It's only open for special astronomical events, you can read more on the towers website http://www.rundetaarn.dk/en/
The current schedule is only for January, so you will have to keep yourself updated before your visit. http://www.rundetaarn.dk/en/the-observatory/
Even if you don't catch an event at the observatory, the tower is still very much worth a visit.

The tower has several interesting nooks and crannies with printed information or signs at each besides being really cool to walk in - while the view at the top is pretty awesome. There used to be horse races inside the tower. I remember seeing it on The Amazing Race and was very intrigued then experienced the tower with my family in August.
