Copenhagen rewards tourists

I just saw this article about how Copenhagen’s tourism office is launching a pilot program that rewards visitors for going green. "Starting July 15, participants who engage in a sustainable activity will earn a gift of appreciation, such as a free kayak rental or coffee and Danish pastry."

It's a really nice idea. Obviously Copenhagen does not have the problems that Barcelona does, and this is a small program, but I do think that in many cases, proactive solutions work better than reactive measures.

I couldn’t unlock it. I’m all for incentives to sustainable behavior. What behaviors are they incentivizing? Denmark is way ahead of the US in terms of sustainability.

Partly worse than Barcelona. Copenhagen is on top 10 list of EU comission about cities with worst housing situation (price and easy-to find; source). And the ratio of vistors to residents in Copenhagen is higher than in Barcelona.

Bsesides some smaller reasons I see two main differences: Copenhagen does not have tourist stress the whole year through; and Copenhagen does not have such issues with very basic resources such as drinking water.

Of course Spanish and Danish people have huge differences in mindset.

Danes are very ambitious in climate protection and maybe they identified tourist behavior as a main issue to address? I guess this is the driver for CopenPay.

We once had a contact to Danish designers who created user interaction for changing tenants' behavior of heating. some very good and effective ideas. The exchange was very interesting.
