Copenhagen itinerary with teens

I'd love feedback on my itinerary. I'm traveling with 3 boys ages 15, 13 and 11. I'm not sure about Roskilde and also considering Bakken, a castle or Land of Legends. We are staying at Charlottehaven. Also wondering if I should book a guided tour at Rosenberg or just walk through on our own. Not sure if teen boys would find the tour more interesting or would just be bored.

July 27 - arrive 1:30 pm - canal tour, round tower, dinner Nyhavn

July 28- day trip Roskilde - Viking Ship Museum, Cathedral, church of our savior, dinner at Reffen, possibly rent go boat or swim at islands Bygge after dinner

July 29 - church of our savior (if not already seen), or national museum in morning, Tivoli gardens

July 30 - rent bikes at hotel, Rosenberg castle at 10, amelienborg changing of guard, museum of Danish resistance, little mermaid, return to hotel at 2:15 metro to airport for 5 pm flight (arrive at airport by 3).

Thanks!

Roskilde is amazing! The Viking ships are crazy cool and the cathedral is pretty Goth, all things considered. (Lots of skulls.) it’s also just a cute fun place to wander around, with youthful energy and plenty of shops and cafés.

That said, if your teens are not into history or old ships or Viking artefacts or cool cathedral art - If they are typical modern teens who care about TikTok and YouTube and stuff like that - They may just be horrendously bored. Only you know your kids, though.

Anyway, here’s one vote for that itinerary in Roskilde!

Here's another vote for Roskilde—I loved it; especially the cathedral, but the Viking Ship Museum is pretty cool, too. I would think your boys might be into that. The town itself is also very nice.

And definitely Tivoli Gardens! It's such a gem, and is so different from American amusement parks. I think they will really enjoy that. It's fun if you are there when it starts to get dark, as the lights come on and it really becomes a magical place.

As far as the boys, why not ask them? Find a description of the Roseberg tour and ask them what they think about it.

I would find a way to add in a walking food tour, either for your first evening or first morning. This has always been one of the best ways I would get my teen boys out and walking around.

I would move the Resistance Museum to the 29th to be sure you have enough time for it. I am pretty sure the boys will find it fascinating.

Tivoli offers a number of good restaurants. We like to go late in the day, stay for dinner, and then walk around and enjoy the light displays.

When we visited the Viking museum in Roskilde there were groups rowing Viking longboats around! They all looked to be school age kids. I am not sure how they had booked it but it looked pretty cool.

Also, Kronborg castle in Helsingor has some pretty interesting things for kids/teenagers. They have an underground area where you tour the cellars using your phone as a torch. It's really interesting and a bit scary.

Looks like you have a great itinerary! It could be too ambitious but it’s always good to have lots of options depending on the weather and how you all feel.

The climb to the top of Church of Our Savior is a bit crazy but very fun. Try to save this and the Round Tower for days when it is clear and sunny if you can.

I think teenagers would like Roskilde more than Rosenberg. If they are interested in something like the resistance museum, they may really like the War Museum (our son found it fascinating but is into history and the military).

I would forego a trip to the Little Mermaid since you already have a full itinerary. You will see the back of it on a canal tour. That was enough for me! I think it is an overrated stop compared to all of the other options in Copenhagen.

My son, at 11, loved a guided bike tour to see lots of sights, plus, of course, Tivoli Gardens. With the Rick Steve's guide, you can probably do a good job on your own in Rosenberg. I am sure they will like the tower climb at Our Saviour. Stop on the way up to see the little film which does a good job of explaining the history.
