Copenhagen in April - and Easter and Hotels

I am starting to plan a (maybe) trip to Copenhagen from April 2 - 8 and realized that this will be during Easter weekend and that it will still be chilly. Will most museums and restaurants be open? Will it be too cold to enjoy the city? Should I plan another time - I can be flexible.

And -- The Admiral or NH Collection?? Looking for a nice, quiet hotel.

Thank you!!!

PS
This is just a trip for me - a mid 70s lady who loves palaces and museums and easy walks. Hubbie is 'museumed out' for the moment.

I once went to Copenhagen at that time of year, without thinking, and had to buy a new coat!
However, as they say, there's no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing.
I don't know either of those hotels, but always try to stay in an NH Collection when available anywhere.
Both seem to be located by the water, the Admiral looks more heritage, but the room as smaller.

Hi,

Will most museums and restaurants be open?

Museums and restaurants will be open, no need to worry about that. Due to Easter (many take time off work and schools are on break), some may even extend their opening hours a bit. However, it is a different story for stores. There are 4 public holidays in Easter, in 2026 they are the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th of April. On these days, most stores are closed byt law. Only a limited number of smaller stores remain open. It will not be a problem, unless you really want to go shopping on these days.

Will it be too cold to enjoy the city?

Danish weather is known to be unpredictable. Nobody can tell you what the weather will be like in April yet, and it’s a month that can have vast differences in weather. It will most likely be around 5-10 degrees C, which is the average for that time of year. But there is a (smaller) change/risk for vastly different weather. The extremes range from snow and temperatures below 0 degrees C to sunny and temperatures exceeding 20 degrees C. These extremes are unlikely in April, but it has happened before.

Check the forecast a few days before you travel, and pack layers so you are prepared for a bit of everything.

The Admiral or NH Collection?? Looking for a nice, quiet hotel.

Haven’t stayed at either Admiral or NH Collection, but regarding their locations, I’d probably pick Admiral. Both are by the harbour, which is nice.

Admiral is a bit closer to the main ‘tourist area’ and the historic city centre. Thus a bit more international/touristy, but high-end and significant area. Walking distances probably a bit shorter from here (on average), though the walk to the nearest metro station is a bit longer (but it is served by all metro lines). NH Collection is on Christianshavn, a historic former industry and working class neighborhood that has been gentrified. Thus a bit more 'local', but in a high traffic corner of Christianshavn. Walking distances will be slightly longer (on average), though the walk to the nearest metro station is shorter (but served by fewer metro lines).

Just to be aware that the Admiral Hotel in Copenhagen may still be undergoing reconstruction and modernization which affects the ground floor and the Salt Restaurant and Bistro.

When we were in Copenhagen we chose to stay at Hotel Phoenix which is only a couple of blocks from Nyhavn and is a wonderful hotel to consider. It was quiet and in a walkable area.

Good to know - thank you for alerting me, particularly since I made a reservation at the Admiral earlier today! Just sent an inquiry asking if the renovations would be complete prior to my approval in mid April (I pushed my departure back week to avoid Easter - and found that many of the rates had dropped - a happy coincidence). I did look at the Phoenix but, in Trip Advisor, found several reviews complaining of poor housekeeping and noice. Not your experience?

Again, thank you!

Just heard back from the hotel (The Admiral) and I think I'm ok -

"Thank you for the email. We expect the interior to be done end of January. The last part is the outside pool and terrasse which should be done before the summer, however I am not 100% of the end date. I don't think it will affect your experience greatly. Let us know if there is anything else you need at this stage. Wishing you a lovely continued weekend, "

I've booked a rate that can be easily cancelled, so I will check back closer to the date to be certain all is well.

Thank you for all your help!!

I stayed in the NH Collection this past spring. It’s nice but a bit expensive. It’s in a nice area and close to a metro stop. I’ve also stayed at 71 Nyhavn, which is near the Admiral. It’s also nice but a bit expensive. But it’s Copenhagen! I love going there that time of year.
