Copenhagen, favorite restaurants?

We'll be in Copenhagen probably October 17-22, including our anniversary on the 20th, a Sunday. Any recommendations on favorite restaurants for lunch, dinner, drinks, coffee?

I had my birthday dinner at Restaurant Barr in June. It was absolutely fantastic. Definitely would recommend going there during your trip. We also had a very good dinner at Baest.

For a splurge, Alchemist. One of the most unique dining experiences I have ever had. It is $$$$ and reservations go quickly as soon as they open. But if you can get one, I highly recommend it.

If you are cocktail fans, I recommend Lidkoeb and Ruby. They have different vibes, but both have very good cocktails.

There is a wonderful coffee shop near Amalienborg Palace called Original Coffee that had really good coffee and one of the best cinnamon rolls I've ever had. They have a number of locations in the city, including a rooftop cafe.

Another good restaurant is Poonchai, which had some really good Thai food. It's right across from the train station.

You also might want to visit Tivoli Gardens, which has some fun food options, including a cafe called Cakenhagen that has some of the most beautiful pastries I've ever seen. Truly amazing and they tasted exquisite. I would also recommend an evening visit to Tivoli, as that is when the magic happens. I loved it here, and it was so beautiful.

Had delicious food last night at the inventively named (sarcasm alert) Ristorante Italiano. Apparently it's where locals go for pizza and pasta. The spaghetti pescatore was full of succulent shellfish. It's located about a block away from the busy Strøget. Very well chosen wines by the glass.

Off topic, but a sunny summer day in Copenhagen is about as good as life on earth gets.

Told & Snaps at Nyhaven was a fun lunch with a couple of Snaps. Cakenhaven at Tivoli was great. Loved our dinner at Maple.

We found two restaurants last summer 2023 specializing in Danish food that we enjoyed. (recognizing that some might not consider traditional Danish food as their first choice for "fine" dining)

Restaurant Karla near the National Museum. Popular, not "intimate" dining, but service and food experience was good. Still gets good reviews. We walked in early and needed no reservation, but I would advise reserving.

Frk. Barners Kaelder Helgolandsgade 8A, Copenhagen 1653 Denmark - we ate here twice as our home bound flight was cancelled and a second nice meal was our consolation prize. We had great service and food, reservations are strongly advised. I'm a bit stunned to see several negative 2024 reviews on TripAdvisor - it may be that the people had no reservations when they complain about waiting and service. In any case, the negative reviews were most definitely not our experience. There were many locals when we ate there.

The above restaurant is not far from Tivoli and the train station. I would suggest walking down Vesterbrogade, then turning onto Helgolandsagade to reach it. The restaurant area is fine and not uncomfortable with several popular hotels in the area. If you continue to walk south from the restaurant and toward the train tracks, the area is less inviting to explore.

We preferred Frk. Barners Kaelder to Karla, but both were good.

Thanks, OrdTraveler. Those are both great suggestions. We are staying at the Scandic Palace, so Frk. Barners Kaelder might be a good suggestion for our anniversary dinner on October 20th. I'll look up the location and menu.

Lovers of craft beer and barbecue should check out Warpigs in the meat packing district; it's owned by Mikkeler, one of the really great craft brewers in the world. ÅBEN is another fine microbrewery, right around the corner from Warpigs. Get plenty of exercise before visiting either one.

We enjoyed Warpigs. Not a far walk from our hotel and it was such a cool space.

I quite liked a street food market called Broens. It’s outdoors on the water near where Noma was located and seemed to be popular with Danes. Lots of interesting options and reasonably priced, especially for Denmark.
