Copenhagen card for son with Downs Syndrome

We plan to be in Copenhagen for six days in September and I've been looking at buying the Copenhagen Discover Card. It says that the disabled can have a free caretaker along if the disabled person has a legal statement stating he needs a caretaker. One look at our son tells anyone he has DS. What does Denmark consider a legal indication of a disability? Joel is intellectually challenged as well as hearing impaired. Would a doctors statement qualify as a legal statement? In Germany, he is given a free caretaker or charged as a child (he's 48 years old).

The CC website has a chat option which says the disabled person ( junior or adult) has the Copenhagen Card which is bought for them and then their caregiver ( junior or adult) just needs to bring either their disability ID or a letter from their doctor explaining their need for an attendant. It’s the caregiver who gets free admission and the written documentation only needs to be presented if requested.

From their FAQs.

“There is no need to provide a handicap ID when ordering the Copenhagen Card. However, the disabled individual must bring their handicap ID (in English) or legal documents explaining the need of bringing an attendant and must be prepared to show it upon request.”

Does your son have a document from a doctor or agency stating his disability? You shouldn’t need to buy a card to accompany him.

Thank you both. Well get a statement from his doctor when he goes for his physical.
