We are arriving at Sonderborg train station and plan to rent a car while visiting Als for 4 days. Any suggestions on a car rental place near Sonderborg station? What is best way to get to a rental place from this train station? Read that a local car rental is sometimes less expensive. Thank you!

It’s not that local, independent car rentals don’t exist, but they’re not that common. The Danish word for car rental is biludlejning, if that helps your search. But the market is dominated by the international chains, such as Avis, Europcar, Oscar, Budget, etc. At least some of them have locations in Sønderborg. There’s also the platform/app GoMore, which is another option for car rentals.
If the rental place is not within walking distance from the station, you can probably get there by public transport. Use journeyplanner.dk / Rejseplanen app for directions. If walking or public transport isn’t an option, then you’ll have to get a taxi. Here is a list of taxi companies in Sønderborg (Dantaxi and Taxi 4x27 also have apps for booking a ride).
