Hi there
I am headed through Copenhagen and have a 15 hour layover which I am excited about. I get in a little after 3pm and so have the late afternoon and evening to explore. I’d like to walk around the pretty Nyhavn and get some food etc. but here’s the part I’m a little nervous about. My flight leaves at 6am and I’ll need to get a bit of sleep. I found a few capsule hotels that are very inexpensive and have really good reviews. I figure I’ll have to leave very early in the morning like 3:30-4 to get to the airport in time? Has anyone got advice regarding this? I’d love tips/suggestions/you got this nudges. Thank you!!!! Sarah
You absolutely got this!
The good news is that public transport is safe, reliable and can get you to the airport 24/7. Naturally there are less departures overnight, but check journeyplanner.dk to find your options. While you can trust the frequencies the metro run at, the exact departure times seem to be arbitrary in my experience. So it can be a good idea to leave a little bit earlier to avoid running late, especially if traveling by metro.
I know it is standard recommendation to be at the airport 2h30m before departure, but if you don't leave the Schengen area or travel without checked luggage, there would be no harm in arriving a little later. Copenhagen Airport is relatively efficient, e.g. waiting times at security are often less than 10 minutes, and rarely above 15-20 minutes - at least in my experience.
I would take a look at the hotels at the airport, Clarion and Comfort. You should be able to check in on arrival, leave your bags and head into town with just a day bag. Then you can have a nap and a shower before your next flight. You don't say if you're coming or going, but if you're on your way home, this is the time to check your bag(s) through and just have a change of clothes and minimal toiletries to deal with.
