12 days in denmark. no car. 5-7 days in CPH. any other suggestions that are reachable by train?

hi all. booking our first trip to denmark. will be there for 12 days, which seems perfect for a slow tourist experience.

5-7 days in copenhagen, primarily focused on enjoying the city, eating, etc.
1 day in dragor (maybe spend the evening)
1 day Frederiksborg Slot

we would like to see either Mons Klint or Stevn Klint, but those seem very difficult to reach by public transportation.

are there any other nice areas we should be thinking about that are easily accessible by train?

I can offer 3 off the top of my head (all can be day trips with the train):

  • Roskilde: nice town, historic cathedral, Viking Ship Museum

  • Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (if you're into modern art): Humlbaek stop, then
    a 10 minute walk

  • Odense: if you're into HC Andersen

A bit longer and probably worthy of an overnight would be train to Odense->
Svendborg and ferry to Aero.

Helsingnor - sites include Kronborg castle, city center, Maritime Museum. 20 minute ferry to Helsingborg Sweden - walk around city center return to Denmark

This and the sites above - exception Odense - can be accessed by train easily. Look into the Copenhagen card which includes transportation. Makes life very easy.

Hi,

If you want to visit chalk cliffs, Stevns Klint or Møns Klint are your two options.

I don't think Stevns Klint is difficult to reach by public transport. See an example of a journey plan here for the "Stevns Klint Experience Center" or here for just regular access to the coast and cliff. Nb. "Vinkestrækning" means there is no bus stop, you have to wave to the driver to get on and notify him/her if you need to get off.

Møns Klint is further away, so requires more dedication. The chalk cliff here is bigger than at Stevns, so if you're interested I think it can justify the longer journey. The bigger issue is that the public transport bus only goes all the way out to Møns Klint in the peak summer months. Example of how that looks here, during the weeks that it does run.

There are day trips from Copenhagen to Camp Adventure and Møns Klint by coach. Maybe that could be of interest to you? Read more and book here.

I agree with the recommendations above. Worth noting is that if you travel off season the more rural areas (such as Ærø) can be less interesting due to the seasonality of the tourism sector in such places. If you're into contemporary art there is also Arken. And if you visit the kind neighbors in Sweden, I would like to highlight Lund as good choice.

Aarhus has a lot to offer: a good modern art museum in a building with an actual rainbow bridge, a good anthropology museum in lovely grounds, the Infinite Bridge, DOKK1 (a very cool public building that houses a library, makerspace, government services, cafes, an automated parking garage--basically what I think we should turn all of our malls into in US), and Den Gamle By, an open-air museum. Easily reached by train from Copenhagen, and it has a good public transportation system within the city.
