10 nights in Denmark with 6 year old :)

Hi Hi!

After about 20 years dreaming I’m finally visiting Denmark. It will be my husband and daughter and I. Traveling mid August (school holidays 🫠)

I typically travel off season so this is my first ever peak summer adventure. Denmark is overwhelmingly spoiled with options and diverse nature and I cannot make up my mind about an itinerary. Torn between exploring just the Zealand island just to take our time indulging slowly or would we greatly regret not going west?

Potential layout (not in precise order just interests)
Dragor
Copenhagen
North Zealand coast beaches
Heatherhills
Lund
Lolland

2)
Most of the above but add..
Faaborg
Lokken

3)
Go nuts and do a bit of everything with
Ribe
Blavand
Thy
Lokken

I’m a nature photographer so hope to spend time around horses and sheep for the type of work I do. Basically hoping for 5 days of blissful nature and 5 days in Copenhagen.

Much thanks
X

For nature photography I would add Møns Klint - preferably in the morning hours with a little sun.

For daughter and photographer how about Knuthenborg Safaripark.

Some good sheep photos you can do at the North Sea coastline because they are used to care for the dykes (example photo from a friend). In these areas there are also chances for some little weird photos (also photo from her).

Consider some of the outdoor museums - interesting and some good photo opportunities:

https://en.natmus.dk/museums-and-palaces/the-open-air-museum/ a short bus trip from Copenhagen. Old buildings - mainly rural.

https://denfynskelandsby.dk/en/ a short boat trip from Odense. Much like the above, so probably one of these should be enough. Odense also has the Danish National Railway Museum and Hans Christian Andersen House.

https://www.dengamleby.dk/en/ in a short walk from central Aarhus. Old buildings mainly from towns and cities. This is my favourite. From Aarhus you can also visit https://reepark.dk/, which is the best zoo I have ever visited. Only https://www.knuthenborg.dk/en mentioned earlier is close.

Since you’ll be spending five days in the countryside you might not want to do this, so ignore this in that case, but while you’re in Copenhagen you might want to check out Amager Faelled. It’s a giant park in the middle of Copenhagen with tall grass and short trees (there are paths). There’s not a ton of animals there (I have seen a couple sheep but idk how findable they are) but it’s a nice place to get lost and an interesting contrast with the city. If the kid doesn’t like the tourist sites she might enjoy running around here and it’s impossible to fall into a canal unlike the rest of Copenhagen so you won’t have to worry about that. Very little shade though. Sorry I know this doesn’t answer your question
