I booked this private tour as opposed to navigating myself via train. Lucky we did as my daughter turned her ankle badly coming off the plane the day before and had great difficulty navigating. We were met at our hotel by lovely guide Risa (sp?) and our driver in a Mercedes van. We headed out to Sintra and heard a lot about Portuguese history and learned to pronounce a few words as well. We had to limit our Sintra tour to the Pena palace exterior as we had a wheelchair. We then headed out for coffee and a wonderful pastry at a favorite local place between Sintra and Cascais. We then drove along the coast stopping for pictures. We were dropped off at a lovely seafood restaurant overlooking the ocean for lunch on our own before proceeding onto Cascais. It was raining by then so between that and my daughters injury we did a car tour. They were even so kind as to offer to arrange a doctor for her if we wanted, but we declined. Our guide gave us some tips for a Sunday night dinner. But we had eaten so much we skipped dinner in favor of a few G&T's at the hotel. This company, Your Friend in Lisbon, was great and if you don't mind spending a little more having a guide adds great value to visiting Sintra, not too mention the stress free transportation and the language lesson. Now, onto Heart of Portugal hoping daughter recovers and can keep up!
