We had a great private guide for Stuttgart area!

We are just finishing up 3 days in Stuttgart to see the car museums and tour the car factories. On our arrival day, Sarah - from Stuttgart Steps - http://stuttgartsteps.com/ - met us in our hotel lobby and took us on a walking tour around the city center.

Sarah is American living long-term in Stuttgart - so no difficult accent or anything - it’s just like walking around Stuttgart with a friend!

It was a great way to learn city history and a great way to know what each building is - instead of walking around, wondering, as per usual for us.

Sarah will also do tours to outlying charming villages and more.

She was an incredible resource of day trip ideas and restaurant recommendations for our stay and - in fact - went to dinner with us after our walking tour. She took us to a fantastic local restaurant and we had a fun time visiting with her.

I highly recommend Sarah!!

Wonderful to hear you had a great tour.
Sarah is a long time participant here on the forum and is a valuable resource for visiting Stuttgart, Esslingen and the surrounding towns.
Stuttgart does not get enough love and it should.

@Ms. Jo - I totally agree!!!!! We really liked the lively charm of Stuttgart. It’s a very liveable-feeling city. We came for the car museums and factory tours but the coolest thing we saw was the paternoster elevator.

If you’re in Stuttgart, you should go see it!

It’s a continuous loop, open compartment elevator. It’s hysterically dangerous but so interesting!!!

@Valerie

A Paternoster is really a cool thing :-) You find lots of them in Germany still in use. In Frankfurt, Hamburg, Berlin or Munich you find them as well.

Just google 'Paternoster Germany' and Wikipedia will show a long list not only for Germany.

@Mignon - Thanks for the tip! I’m in Munich right now but I’m thinking it’s not open for Easter. I see the Wikipedia link but I can’t readily find one in Berlin we can go in and see. Can you send me a link? We’ll be there in 10 days and I’d love to see another one!!!!

There is one in Frankfurt you can use if they have it turned on, in Flemings Hotel by Eschenheimer Turm. Quite fun to ride.
