I will be on a Road Scholar small ship cruise in Greece, Egypt, Israel in November/December. The time in Athens is not long and I want arrive early in Athens to go see Delphi. Do you recommend one or two days and do you have any recommendations for a tour guide? Additionally, I am a recent widow and will be traveling alone. Does anyone have any thoughts about a "young" senior woman traveling alone in Greece?
My husband and I were on the RS Best of Greece tour in March and we visited Delphi.
Looking at the RS Greece guidebook, I see that you can take a bus from Athens. Delphi is 3 hours north of Athens.
I would suggest joining a tour from Athens, you might find something on this forum or at trip advisor.
A good guide would add to the experience by providing an explanation of the site.
You only need a few hours at the archaeological site, but it would take a full day with the travel time.
Traveling in Athens and Greece as a solo traveler should not be a concern. We felt very safe during our travels.
There is so much to see in Athens. You could arrive a week early to enjoy everything the city has to offer.
