Many people are turning up and getting tickets at the gate but its not 100% sure.... There is a pretty helpful website that has info on alternatives if the online system is full. http://www.caminodelrey.es/no-tickets-for-the-caminito-left-online-no-problem-hopefully/
Even though you have a car it's also worth thinking about the train combination ticket because very often even when the online system is booked. The ticket machine at Malaga train station often has available entries. http://www.caminodelrey.es/tickets-for-combining-train-bus-and-caminito-del-rey-entry-on-sale-from-1st-february-2019/
