Terezin Tour with Pavel Batel

We took a day trip from Prague to Terezin and toured with Pavel Batel and he was terrific! Pavel has conducted extensive research on Terezin and the Holocaust and his passion and knowledge is unsurpassed. He has interviewed survivors of the Holocaust, and their personal stories are intertwined throughout the tour. During the day we were also afforded the opportunity for some time to view the exhibits on our own. We appreciated this since many tours just move you along as if you are a herd of cattle.. Pavel is one of the very best guides we have ever employed and his expertise provided a poignant experience that can not be gained by touring Terezin on your own. Highly recommend if you are looking for a tour that is thought provoking and insightful.

Just wondering did Pavel just concentrate on the period of history that Terezin was used as an Internment camp by the Nazis or did he go into the whole history of the garrison Town that is Terezin.

good to here that, many just skip over the whole history of the place and concentrate on the war years.
I find it to be a facinating place with a whole wealth of history, hoping to get back there in a few weeks time.

Tracy, when I went to Terezin I did it on my own.Took a bus from Holesovice bus station, bus takes about an hour and stops just a 100 yards from the Entrance to the small fortress.I bought a ticket that covered all the sites ,I can't remember how much it cost but nothing outrageous . You can arrange a tour guide when you are there but I just went off on my own. The other sites are spread over quite a large area as it really is a small town and spend most of a day going round them, got the bus back to Prague from outside the main museum which is about 400 yards from the Small fortress.
I think going with a guide would deliver much more info than I acquired but still on my own I really did get a lot from the place.

Tracy,
Pavel picked us up at our hotel and dropped us off there at the end of the day. On the drive to Terezin he provided us with a lot of background information on both the camp and life in the Czech Republic. He truly is a wealth of knowledge. We found that to be very helpful before we began the tour. It was a full day tour with a predetermined price. We chose to add a gratuity at the end of the day, but that is a matter of personal preference. Our day with Pavel was money well spent, and I would highly recommend him!
