I was online about to reserve a ticket for St Mark's Basilica for opening time. The website popped up with a message to indicate mornings are very busy with tours and suggests reserving after 13:30. Seems like 14:30 or 15:00 would be better yet. Is an hour to an hour and a half sufficient time? Any guidance about the reservations - when to pick up? any problems? I was hoping to take the vaporetto to San Magiore later in the afternoon/early evening around 17:00.

Basilica San Marco always has people...as long as the doors are open. As long as you have a reservation you should be good to go.
Unless there is another time that the lights are turned on to highlight the ceilings I would stick with 11:30 am as it is a spectacular sight. It's been a few years since my last visit so that may have changed tho'. Enjoy bella Venezia!
Sherry, didn't realize that lights to highlight ceiling are not on at certain times. I will look into it.
