Hi -- If you want to spend some time at the beach, what are some good tips to keep your belongings safe while you're in the water?
Depends on the beach and time of year. If there are loungers and umbrellas, then there are some portable 'safes' you can lock to something, but in my mind that is just broadcasting you have something to steal. If you sit near a mom and kids, ask them to watch your clothing, but put your valuables in a waterproof pouch. AAA, REI and Amazon all have numerous options of different sized pouches for phones or valuables. Some have neck lanyards, like I have, but it floats like a buoy and get is my way. You can get similar as large as a waist (fanny) pack. Wear that at your lower back and it won't matter so much if it aids in floating. Some people bury it into the sand and cover with a towel but I'll stick to the waterproof pouch.
Test it at home. put a piece of TP or kleenex in the pouch, close as instructed and push into a sink of water for a while. Check whether the tissue is wet. I have had no problems with leakage.
Thank you for your time and great suggestions!
