Has anyone used Elegant Irish Tours recently? Reviews are mixed and I know that the experience really depends on the driver. We were thinking of the Giants Causeway tour. We are only in Dublin for 3 days. We do not want to drive and do not care for large motorcoach tours. Open to suggestions!
Several folks here on the Forum recommend Mary Gibbons for a day tour to Newgrange. I don't know if she does other days tours, but she gets great reviews on Trip Advisor.
Bumping post. We am visiting Dublin in July and would also like day tour small group recommendations.
Mary Gibbon's tour of Tara, Knowth and Newgrange is wonderful - I'm just back after a very full day. Even for a local (Dublin/Meath) I learnt a huge amount. Mary fills you in on Irish and Dublin history from the beginning to the end of the tour, so lots to think about as the bus takes you to Tara. Then on to Knowth which is amazing if you are into neolithic archaeology, and then to Newgrange. Mary is clearly knowledgeable about pretty much everything from the neolithic age to the present and her awareness of Irish literature, beyond the obvious giants is impressive, and I have a lit degree.
It really is a privilege to be able to enter the tomb at Newgrange and this is the best way to go about it. My husband and adult daughter also agreed that it was a great experience. Knowledge combined with humour - what more could you want.
