Segway tours in Florence or Rome?

Anyone have experience with this and any recommendations?

A a pedestrian, I would ask you not to do this. At least, make sure the operation is entirely legal. And tell the guide-duuude that you will stop at crosswalks.

I agree with Tim. We cringe when see them coming, filled with inexperienced drivers. They should be banned in these ancient cities.

Aside from the fact that it would very difficult to navigate over the cobblestones, with so many people walking about, it will be dangerous. You would not want to go into the street with the cars, and the sidewalk will hardly be better.

Ok, I have done Seqway tours in Rome and Paris several times. The Tour Operator aways make sure that everyone has practice time to get comfortable with the Segway operation before starting the tour. During the tour they avoid the really crowded areas and tend to use the backroad routes, and it is no problem going up or down hills, on cobblestone or otherwise. I have never seen a "close call" with pedestrian's, although like someone in a wheelchair, people tend to give them space.

The only problems I have seen is riders are requested to travel single file. Some guys like try and ride side by side with their girlfriends or buddies, but never in heavy pedestrian areas.

In any case take heart, the Segway "Personal Transporter" days are numbered - they have not been manufactured since July 2020. The ones I have ridden have all been well used so they are not going to last forever.

Rebecca: Looks like this golf cart tour is only available Sun, Tue, and Thu - correct?

barbwild: That seems to be the case, but it's always worth writing to the company if another day is desired!

barbwild: Googling "florence italy tour electric" (without the quotes) seems to bring up many tour companies doing the golf cart tours. Can't say I know any of them but the usual review places seem to be there.
