rome tour for a day

We have one day in rome coming from a cruise. I'm not thrilled with the options offered by the cruise line. Does anyone have a suggestion for a private tour company for the day for 2 people. 7 am to 6pm I have never been to rome and want to see everything.

Hi Naomi,

We, too, will be visiting Rome while on a cruise. One tour company that gets great reviews is Rome in Limo. Although I plan to use the Rick Steve audio guides in most of the cities I decided on this tour company while in Rome and Naples. The price is high for two people but if you are open to joining more people (you choose the number) then you can post a tour share on their website.

I too, suffer from "want to see it all". I agreed, after our Baltic's cruise, that I would slow down a bit and smell the roses this time around.

You don't have 7am to 6 pm. The cruise port is over an hour away from Rome. Plan on two hours from the time you leave the ship till you are in the heart of Rome. And, of course, the same for the return. Within that time frame you will not get close to seeing it all unless you want a drive by. One simple approach to seeing all as drive by would be to take the train in to Termini, walk across the plaza, and grab a hop on/off bus for the day. It would take by and near all major attractions and you can judge what time you have to see a couple of attractions. There are roughly three trains an hour taken between 45 mins and 1 hr 15 (depending on the train) between the cruise port, Civit..... and Rome. See RoninRome.com for a detail description of the train service.

Are you familiar with Cruisecritic.com for arranging shared tours with other ship passengers?

We just came back from Rome and used Miles & Miles recommended in the Rome book. We did the Rome Immersion tour and added the Vatican. It was great! Miles & Miles were friendly and worked with us to meet my family's special needs.
