Pina Esposito is an outstanding guide to Pompeii!

In his “Naples & the Amalfi Coast” (2018), Rick Steves recommends Pina Esposito as a tour guide various sites in the region. I highly endorse Rick’s recommendation.

My partner and I hired Pina for a 4 hour tour of Pompeii. It was totally worth it. We saw way more and learned so much more than had we toured the large site on our own. With a PhD in the relevant disciplines, Pena had a tremendous depth of knowledge yet was able to communicate it in a way that was not overwhelming and with a bit of humor. Her command of the English language is excellent. She explained the cultural influences on Pompeii, gave a good sense of daily life, and the context of Pompeii in the region over time. She also offered insight into the archeological methods.

I arranged our tour via email before I left for Italy. Pina was responsive and presented several options. We met her at the entrance and her fee does not include entrance ticket.

We thought the 4 hour tour was the right amount of time as it left time, after a lunch break, to see other parts of the site on our own, including some areas Pina suggested.

Thank you for this recommendation. A local guide is a terrific enhancement to travel, and I'm pleased to add Pina to my ever growing list of highly regarded local guides. Pompeii is on my adventure list, and, thanks to you, I now have a guide in mind when that becomes a reality.

I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Esposito! She gave me and my goddaughter, a history buff, a thorough and very enjoyable 4-hour tour of Pompeii. She met us at the Naples train station with a car and driver and started teaching us immediately. She has 2 PhD's in archeology and actually used to "dig in the dirt!" Her English is impeccable! My only regret is that we toured with her on a day that the museum was not open or she would have taken us there also. She has a very engaging personality and we were very comfortable asking questions, etc., to which she gave thorough answers. Highly recommend Dr. Esposito to really appreciate Pompeii!

I have seen other posts questioning payment to Dr. Esposito. I paid 1/2 the amount via PayPal upon making the reservation and paid the balance in person.

Note: Buy water before you start the tour! We were there in September 2019 and it was extremely warm. Thankfully, there are no concession stands in the ruins but we could have used water!

Very interesting! Tell me, please, could we go there together with our child (3 y.o.)?
