Palace of Versailles tours

Has anyone done a group tour or can recommend a tour of the palace of Versailles. The RS tour we are doing in May does not include and we have a pre tour day available. Staying at hotel B Montmartre, would be leaving from that area.

We reserved or bought our tickets in advance for Versailles and took a train out there.

Been to Versailles 3 times. Bought tickets in advance and never felt the need to use a tour. Used Rick's audio guide.

The first time we did Versailles we just paid the extra for their audio guide or you could use the RS downloadable. The only thing that was better with the RS tour, the second time, was the ability to not have to go thru the entrance line. The palace was still crowded and if you lingered too long in one room, you became out of range for the whisper system.

I did a "Guided Tour- The King's Private Apartments" when I visited Versailles a few years ago, booked through the Chateau Versailles website: https://billetterie.chateauversailles.fr/guided-tours-css5-chateauversailles-lgen-pg1-rg7106.html .

The tour was in English and the guide led us through the King's apartments, which were totally empty of other tourists! It only lasted about 1.5 hours and the guide was so knowledgeable and informative. We thought it was great value added to our day at Versailles and would likely do it again.

We used Ricks audio guide, allows you to go at your own pace, linger where you want, and not worry about having to keep up with the group. Also, if possible, try to visit on the least busy day (Rick advises which day in his guidebook), and be there at least 15 minutes before opening. We were there in October, arrived 20 min early along with about 30 others, and enjoyed many internal spaces with no crowds and sometimes no others at all. Spent 6 hours walking, and at the end, spent another hour trying to find the beautiful garden from the film, “A Little Chaos” - it’s on the map — and we did find it, a wonderful reward for the walking ;)
Enjoy.

Celtic- I adored that movie! RIP Alan Rickman. Whereabouts on the grounds is that garden?
Ah. Nevermind. I found it. Closer to the Palace than I thought.
