Nova Scotia

We are planing a trip to Nova Scotia mid May for 4 nights 5 days. We are staying in Halifax. Looking for a guided tour to Lunenburg and Peggy’s Cove one day. The remaining days touring Halifax. looking for tour suggestions for Lunenburg and Peggy’s Cove. Also looking for any dinning suggestions. Will Halifax be easy to get around with Uber?

HI there,

I'm happy to answer in reverse order:
Uber is readily available in Halifax. Depending where you're staying, the central part of the city is quite walkable, although hilly: it grew up around Citadel Hill, so the climb from the harbour is steep in parts. Once you're at Barrington Street/Spring Garden Road it's flat.
May can be iffy weather-wise. I've seen it snow on May 10th and I've seen it climb to 35 degrees (celsius) Victoria Day weekend (that's May 18 this year. Many places will be closed). The weather is an adventure. You'll want a raincoat and layers.
May is the start of the cruise ship season in Halifax. Take a look at the port schedule (https://www.porthalifax.ca/cruise/cruise-schedule/) to see if there are ships in town. The crowds at Peggys will increase in direct proportion to the number of ships, One place to check for a Peggy's tour is Ambassatours (https://www.ambassatours.com/tours-experiences/peggys-cove-tour). While you're there, don't even think about getting close to the water's edge. It's quite dangerous. For Peggy's and Lunenburg in the same day, check Anchor Tours (https://www.anchortours.ca/).
In terms of Halifax restaurants, there's something for all tastes and budgets.
Here are some of my favorites:
Black Sheep (https://blacksheephalifax.com/)
Salt and Ash (https://saltashhalifax.com/)
Bicycle Thief (https://bicyclethief.ca/)
The Press Gang (https://thepressgang.ca/)

It's been a while, but three of my favourite Halifax experiences:

  1. Pier 21. This is an interactive museum commemorating the place where many immigrants to Canada arrived, soldiers went off to war, war brides arrived, and home orphans arrived. The museum is really, really well done and interesting.

  2. Nearby we also toured the HMS Sackville, a navy corvette, and it was interesting to see how the sailors lived on board. https://www.pc.gc.ca/apps/dfhd/page_nhs_eng.aspx?id=288

  3. The Five Fishermen. This is a restaurant housed in a building that was once an art school established by Anna Leonowens (of Anna and the King of Siam fame). The food was good when we went, too. https://www.fivefishermen.com

We liked the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic when we were there.
