Northern Italy peaceful accomodations?

We are celebrating our 40th anniversary with a Rick Steves My Way Trip 12 day Alps in August. Ending in Chamonix France and will be taking a cruise from Ravenna 7 days later. As we make our way to Ravenna we'd like recommendations for places to stay and highlights. We'd like to find a few places to stay that we can recharge for the next adventure on the cruise. Preer places no too crowed but with interesting sights and good food.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thank you!

If you’re taking the trains, you will go through Torino, Milan, Parma, & Modena. Of those, I recommend Torino & Parma. Torino is a wonderful city that’s still off of most people’s main plans, so although there will be some people, it doesn’t feel as busy. In Torino, the hotel mentioned in the trip report below is beautiful & elegant - very nice for an anniversary trip, plus it’s only about 10 minutes from the train station. (Modena is also in that trip report, but you probably want some place nicer for your lodging there.). At Parma, be sure to go inside the Parma Cathedral for gorgeous warm-colored frescoes covering the aisle & ceiling - one of my favorites! I like La Forchetta Restaurant there and stay at the least expensive room at the Palazzo Della Rosa Prati - a minute from the cathedral.

A huge highlight are the mosaics in Ravenna! Get the combo ticket & enjoy! They will be crowded, so go when they first open.
