Mode of transport to get around Amalfi coast for a day

We are doing the 13 day Southern Italy trip with Rick Steve's and have a question regarding getting around the towns in the Amalfi coast.

We would like to do some hikes around Amalfi, Ravello, Positano, Atrani,,, on the free day we have, What is the best way to travel from access these from Maiori?. Local buses, rent a car?. Are there any recommended hikes?

Also what is the experience for those who have been in this area around end of March in terms of the weather?.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

We did the Path of the Lemons from Maiori to Minori then the ferry between other towns. We were on this tour mid April a couple of years ago and had a variety of weather days, including rain, cold and warm….dependo. Have a great time it’s a wonderful tour.

rent a car?

Even if there were a convenient place to get one, it's the next to last thing you would want . Something like covid would be one of the few things that would be worse.

Short answer "no'.

Local buses are usually jammed, and may not even stop. At least, that's how it is in April. Check if the ferries are running in March.
A car would be your worst nightmare.
We used a private driver from Aldo Limos.
There is just no magic mode for dealing with the congestion and poor infrastructure. Perhaps your guide can share inside info ( a cousin, perhaps???)
And just maybe-late March won't be as congested. Good luck!

I have been there several times in the month of March to hike and the weather can be cool and clear, or rainy. If you only have one day, however, you only have one hike, generally speaking as most of the hikes up into the mountains are fairly long. The bus is your best transportation between the towns, and shouldn’t be overly crowded in March.

Agree that the bus works well. Just check the schedule ahead of time. Tickets can be bought at kiosks or tobacco stores and you can get a day pass. Bus line is SITASUD.
