Memorable Normandy D-Day Beaches Tour

My husband, our two teen age children and my parents took a one day tour last summer with Chris Emery at visitdday.com. It was absolutely wonderful! Chris is a warm, funny, kind man who has done enormous research on D-Day and knows everything! We met him with our rental car in Bayeux. We initially wanted someone who would drive us around but it turned out it was MUCH better this way since Chris gave us so much information while we were driving from place to place and showed us videos and photos on his iPad which he could not have done if he were driving. His combat experience serving in the Royal Marine Commandos in Afghanistan enhanced our tour and made it all the more interesting. He took us to the beaches and mapped out invasions and strategies in the sand with a stick - thrilling for my teen age son and my dad. Although it was high tourist season, Chris managed to organize the tour so we were always in the least crowded place. Our visit to the cemetery was amazing since Chris has such a personal interest in D-Day -- he corresponds with widows and has personal stories about people buried there. Chris was excellent about working with all the different members of our group -- he made accommodations for my 80-year old parents and tried to have personal interaction with our teenage daughter who had less of an interest in the tour than the rest of us. We had lunch in a town square, stopped a farm for some local Calvados (apple brandy) and apple juice and finished the day with ice cream at a nearby dairy. We originally thought we would go to one of the museums after the tour but there was no need because the day with Chris was so full and informative. Going to a museum would have seemed like a let down after Chris' energetic, spirited storytelling. Cannot recommend him enough -- well worth the money!

We also used Chris as our guide - two young adult children, my husband, and me - in the summer of 2018. Well worth it.
