Loire Valley, France - Acco Dispo Tours will lie to you, will defraud you, and will steal your money

A word of warning to anyone considering an Acco Dispo tour.

Acco Dispo shares on their own website "The first reservation of two-people minimum can choose the tour itinerary." Since our tour, they have added the clause "Some programs will require a minimum of 4 people."

None of this is true.

We were visiting the Loire Valley for only 1 full day, and were very intentional about the sights we wanted to see. After doing our research, we decided to book an Acco Dispo tour. We attempted to book on March 23, only to be told that they schedule their tours 1 month out. To be sure that we could choose the itinerary for our given date, July 16, we submitted our reservation at midnight on June 16. Acco Dispo responded, confirming our reservation for the desired itinerary.

In the month leading up to our trip, other guests expressed interest in an alternate itinerary on July 16. So as to not lose this additional business, Acco Dispo changed the itinerary (despite guaranteeing that we would be able to choose the itinerary) and then poorly communicated the change in schedule. It wasn't until we had already departed for the day's activities and had left the pick-up point that we learned we would be visiting other sites.

Our carefully planned and intentional holiday was ruined. We were entitled to a full refund as we didn't receive the experience that we paid for. Still, I attempted to compromise, and only requested a partial refund, as we did ultimately visit chateaux that day, just not the ones we had intended to see. Acco Dispo refused to refund any of our payment, and has kept the full amount for themself.

Unfortunately, there seems to be few tour agencies in the Loire Valley offering a similar service to Acco Dispo, and thus they can run their business in such a dishonest, disingenuous manner. I encourage other tour operators to consider establishing a competing business and operate with honesty and principles. I also encourage anyone considering booking with Acco Dispo to use caution. While they say you can choose the day's itinerary, they may change it unexpectedly, thus ruining your carefully planned holiday.

Acco Dispo will likely respond to this review, disputing these claims. I'm happy to provide our email correspondence as proof of everything I've shared here.

The business model you describe is one I have never heard of. It seems likely to fail if they try to combine being private guides (customer chooses itinerary) with group tours. Your very disappointing experience is an example of how they really can’t provide what they are promising.

I am sorry that this clearly impacted the enjoyment of your trip.

I am sorry to hear of your experience and hope others with very recent bookings will describe what they encountered.

I tried to tour with ACCO DISPO 10 months ago, October 2024. I was a solo traveler and knew up front that my booking was "iffy". Sure enough, no one wanted my tour date to any destination. I contacted them by phone (they spoke English) to see if there were any tours to my chosen chateaux during my several days in the area. I did hear of an alternate plan, but this didn't include the sites I wanted, so passed. Despite my disappointment, I was impressed by the professionalism and had planned to try them again, hopefully with a travel partner.

It seems, given the OP's experience, that their policies have changed since last fall. When I attempted to book, apparently as with the OP, the policy was 2 people minimum - first bookers pick the destinations. I was able to book multiple months out. None of that seems to be current policy. I'm hoping someone can verify.

Thanks Cody for describing your interactions. If I am understanding the new policies accurately, I won't be trying ACCO DISPO again as I would only be interested in those chateaux that I haven't already visited or can't access easily with public transport. If there is no guarantee of where they would take me, I'm out!

I’m another person who had planned to take one of their tours, but they cancelled the day before. Here was my experience in 2019 and what ended up working well:

I had reserved a chateau tour with Acco-Dispo, but they needed more participants, so I switched to a tour with A La Francaise. For this tour, a couple from Ireland & I went to see the outstanding gardens at Villandry. Our guide walked us through the chateau to see the rooms and see the garden views. Afterwards, she provided a relaxing picnic on the grounds of Chateau L'Iselette. The first tour I had planned to take was going to be intense, covering four chateaus during an entire day. This half-day tour turned out to be the opposite - very relaxing, and I really enjoyed the chance to relax in the country setting and hear much more about living in France from our young guide. Villandry had been my top priority, and we had plenty of time there to enjoy the setting, arriving before it was crowded. (I had seen some of the other chateaus years ago.)

Cody, sorry you went through this, but perhaps it will serve as a cautionary tale for others.

I'll avoid this group as the risk is too high. I try to avoid as many "maybes" as possible when travelling.

We've had consistent good fortune with City Wonders tours, and of course Rabbies', but of course they don't go everywhere.
